The Town of Promised Land Lakes, provides some people with a safe haven to live at during the darkest hours on planet Earth. There is still a need for order in the town to avoid total anarchy that exists in many places on the planet. Anyone can have a job, from the very young to the very old; everyone is here to try to make things better for those in the town. There is even a chance to learn a new trade, or to teach a skill in the Promised Land University.

The Town Leader is responsible for making sure that the militia and civilian affairs maintain order within the town, that people have food to eat, and that the militia does not take advantage of the civilian population. They are divided up to foot soldiers, scouts, and specialty forces that specialize in magic.

Promised Land Lakes, is a fictional town set in rural Bucks County, Pennsylvania near the Delaware River. The small town is a half hour away from Philadelphia, and two hours from New York City by car. There is of course the issue of many other abandoned

The climate in the region is temperate. The summers can be hot and humid, with exceptionally cold winters with large amounts of snowfall.

The Outside World: The world has been left with only thirty-five percent of the population in tact, and people are scattered all over the place. The cities, the ports operating only to allow people on the coasts to fish the seas to provide food and to move from place to place. Sorry, but bananas have gone extinct in Pennsylvania.

The invasion itself has also crippled the infrastructure, the power plants, water treatment facilities, gas refineries, the banks are non-existent, and of course there's no internet, mobile, radio, or phone service. The only means of electricity comes from gas ran generators, or any place with a back-up generator. This doesn't mean somethings won't work, the battery has become the greatest invention known to man.

Transportation is best kept to foot, horse, motorbikes, older boats, and older model cars that lack the complex electronic systems that today's cars have. The simpler it is, the better off you are. We won't rule out small older prop aircraft if someone can be fortunate enough to find one in good shape.

There are some members of the game that do have functioning TARDIS, so travel outside of the state and the United States along with to other places in the known universe is possible. There will be plots that will take us above and beyond, to help with the revitalization of Earth.

Food and Resources: Food will run out, so finding more by raiding other towns, scrounging for it, making trips to the cities to find what was left behind will be key. This does not limit people to just canned food if you can hunt or grow it. There might even be some domestic animals that got loose, such as cows, goats, sheep, and even pigs. It might not be wise to consider keeping one of these animals as a pet, without knowing they are going to be feeding hungry mouths.

Life can be made better, people can work to get running water restored to the town, dealing with sanitation, and eventually with some know how -- to get the power back, and the radios back up. As time does move on in the game, by NPC or even PC movement things will get better. This will be a slow process, and of course there's the chance of more invaders or people being people.

Downtime: There's downtime and room for fluff, it just won't be hanging out at cafes or plopping down to watch the latest episode of American Idol. A chance to watch a movie might be more of a luxury if there's spare gas for the generators, or batteries to operate a portable DVD player. Life has just gotten a lot more simpler, so take a chance to let your characters enjoy life without being constantly plugged in.

Things that go Bump: Earth has been visitor to both alien life and the supernatural before, and just with this major set back doesn't mean it won't happen again. There's also threats from humanity itself, with outlaws, other towns, and people trying to get the upper hand of a bad situation to gain full power for themselves. The Rift is also responsible for some events that happen, from animating the dead, to providing a gateway for creatures from other worlds to get here.

The Rift: The Rift is how your character likely got here, it is for the most part a one-way ticket. Characters can sometimes return to their home universe, or to visit other realities; most people tend find themselves stuck here.

Return to Normal: If we return to a normal world, it might be more advanced than the one that was left behind. It all depends on where people go with the environment they have to play in. The key to the setting is to allow characters to have a chance to effect the outcome of the game.

The Setting

fractured_mod: (werewolf)
Fractured Rifts is a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, survival panfandom game based out of the Doctor Who universe. The events in the game are taking place in a after present day version of 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth' that plunged the surviving two thirds of the population into another Dark Age. The planet would be ripe for a secondary invasion that would soon follow, and the Earth now relies on a ragtag team of heroes to fight save the day.

This ragtag team of heroes is held together by hope, despite their world being shattered, loved ones lost, and living a life on the constant run; has hopes to keep the Earth safe for future generations to come. It has became their responsibility to begin to help rebuild The Earth or to see the survivors off to the stars. For now they have settled in a small town in Northeastern Pennsylvania, called Promised Land Lakes.

The game follows in the footsteps of various post-invasion concepts such as, Falling Skies, War of the Worlds, Walking Dead, and other events that would take place on a broken Earth. This allows for darker elements on the Earth to be explored, from xenophobia, questions of morality, and loss.

---

Fractured Rifts welcomes all different characters from various television shows, movies, books, animated, video games, comics, original characters, AUS, duplicates, and other concepts. What your character can contribute to the game is left entirely up to you. A character that was selling cell phones one day, can help lead a team of fighters. Your imagination is only limited to you.

Your character will find themselves snatched up by The Rift, and dumped somewhere outside of the town or close to where everyone is located at. They have various options offered to them, and while the game itself is set in a post-apocalyptic setting there is a variety of settings offered to them. There is the militia, the civilian life, a local university, and a children's home to start out with. As time goes on, there maybe some slice of life offerings that would fit with the ever evolving setting.

The game play offers a chance for people's characters to shape the world for better or worse. There is no saying what will happen in a year from now, we could be in the same place, we could be out there traveling the stars, or finding ourselves in a new city. And, with the game set in the Doctor Who universe there will be chances for us to of course explore time and space.

DISCLAIMER: Fractured Rifts will be dealing with some situations that may not be suitable for everyone. Due to the adult nature of some of them we require players to be at least 18.

Torchwood

TORCHWOOD

Captain Jack Harkness's Torchwood has risen from the ashes, after the original British institution was buried. No longer does Torchwood rely on the government to provide a service for Earth. Torchwood has once again become a global organization that helps Earth combat both extra-terrestrial and terrestrial threats. Torchwood's goals are to see Earth and the human race make it to see the future, and to prevent it from going terminal before its time. They also see to helping out those who have fallen through the Rift, by either offering a position to those suited to the Torchwood life style or simply providing support. For those who are not meant for Torchwood, there are smaller fronts that people are able to operate from the coffee shops, clinics, and other small businesses located near the main HUBs.

Torchwood is built up of numerous fronts all across the globe, that help provide humanity with technological advances to something simple like a coffee shop franchise. The Torchwood HUBs are global with many mini-Torchwoods scattered across each of the seven continents and in numerous countries. Their main headquarters is now located in Los Angeles, the other main HUBs located in New York City, London, Cardiff, and Glasgow. The HUBs are connected together by teleport that allows people to travel between the various HUBs.

Joining Torchwood

Fractured Rifts does not have an activity checks, but we would like for those who join with Torchwood to be reasonably active. Members need to be at least eighteen, and have skills (medics, engineers, special abilities, leadership skills.. etc.) that would make them suitable for the organization. Remember, not everyone in Fractured needs to be a member to be involved with plots. Torchwood also will accept help freelance workers from individuals that do not fit in a team like setting.

There's no application to join, if your muse fits please post below, and remember sometimes Torchwood comes looking for you.

Division Leaders:

The division leaders not only have an IC function, but they also function as a mini-moderator. While anyone can run a plot in fractured, they are those that have the ability to drive a plot, help both IC/OOC with players inside of the comm if they're Torchwood or not, and help make decisions for the direction the game is going to take.

Torchwood: Los Angeles (Main)

The Los Angeles HUB is located in the Malibu Hills section of the city. It sits on 125,000 acres of land that leads out to a private beach. The homes of many of the staff are in this area, from those that work in the other branches, to even a few notable locals.

The HUB itself is a large mansion home that functions as the main work area, a medical suite in the guest house that's fit with the latest in medical equipment (some of it is beyond modern), and various labs that aren't connected to the main house.

Recently rebuilt after it was buried during the events of the 456 (resembles the S2 HUB). The old Cardiff HUB sits under The Roald Dalh Plass and Millenium Center. Its got a relatively small staff for how large the Archive space is. Its unknown how big it exactly is, even Captain Jack Harkness doesn't know for sure. There maybe many mysteries that have been locked away from the previous owners for over a century.

Torchwood Cardiff is also responsible for tending to the Cardiff Rift, that has since reopened. The staff there takes care of the population of Weevils that lives under the sewers, debris from other universes, and anything else that has been washed up by the Rift.

Torchwood

Apr. 11th, 2011 05:09 pm
fractured_mod: (Default)
The Torchwood has been rebuilt after the destruction of the Torchwood Cardiff during the events that surrounded the 456. With some of his team still intact Jack Harkness eventually left for America to salvage what was left of the old Cardiff HUB to begin again in America.

It would take over two years for him to finish a new HUB located on an old orchard that consists of over 125,000 acres in the Santa Monica Mountains of Malibu, California.
The newly constructed HUB is state of the art with the use of future and alien technology to aid the Torchwood staff with their jobs. The new HUB not only gives the staff a place to work, but a place to live if people chose to do so in this company town.

Torchwood's mission statement has changed since it was formed by Queen Victoria. Its no longer a government ran agency and it no longer works under the British Crown. It is left completely in the hands of Captain Jack Harkness and those he's selected to work under him. Torchwood is there to help defend the Earth against non-human hostiles from other worlds, realms and even planes from the alien to the supernatural.

The Rift has become global but with the majority of the activity has shifted from Cardiff to California after an attempt to close the rift failed. Jack now has his hands full and he's begun to take in more members of Torchwood to combat the threats to the Earth's future.

Sometimes, just sometimes they go above and beyond the call of duty to help other worlds with numerous Doctors that have been drawn to this universe like moths to an open flame.

Application

Please answer all of the following:

Character Name: The character's name/name they go by

Fandom: The fandom the character is from.

About your character: Please include a link to an exchange your character has had like in [livejournal.com profile] dear_mun, [livejournal.com profile] sixwordstories, [livejournal.com profile] dear_multiverse or other similar comm. (if you haven't posted to comms, personal journals are acceptable, as long as mods can read the RP.) If you cannot provide us with one of these please provide a 200-300 third person sample.

If your character is an AU please explain what makes them an AU. An AU is a character that still retains the traits of the parent canon characters with what deviates them from their original canon source but not so much that they wind up OOC.

Also, please provide your character's Point of Entry into the game. (For Example: Donna's entry into the game is taken from after Left Turn.)

For OCS:

Background/History: This For OCS but canon muses can do this also, but it's not required of them. If you are applying for an OC please include as detailed a background as possible about your character. There is no word limit here but the more there is the better, also it's the quality of the background and not the size that counts but try to shoot for 400 words at the least.

If the OC has any special powers or abilities include them here and explain what they are or do. Do they have any special items? Also make sure to include information about how they obtained these items in the character's background.

Character Journal: A link to the character journal

Age: (Operator/Mun's age)

Disclaimers: (Because sometimes it does need saying.) Because we wish to have quality players that will fit in well with our game, your application may be rejected on the basis of the quality of application you submit to us. (This includes the RP sample you submit.)

We all love plots, the mods can only do so much in helping run them. We want to try to leave the players to help run these. We encourage players to drive most of the story lines themselves, with a limited mod involvement if it can be helped.

If you have any plot suggestions we want you to listen them here.

Also, this will act as a summary board for plots that are on going to try to help people from getting lost in transition.

Here's a guide line to follow, as each step moves on post here a summary as to what's happening, links to major threads and the players involved. Make sure to also use the event: (event name) tag so it can be recapped as needed.

The Verses

We are a multi-versed community, and there are many different verses here that exist. Each may come with their own cast of characters. While the verses are all unified on this one Earth we would like to know a little bit about your verse. This doesn't have to be filled out, but this makes things easier to follow for everyone. Only one !verse member needs to do this.

Verse Name:
Verse Cast if Avail: Include lj names of those involved with the verse.

Verse Background:

This isn't an application by any means, this is just something to make it easier to keep tabs with all of the different alternate characters out there. There's no worry about any rejection happening by filling this out. It just lets us know a bit about your muses.

Character Name:
Character Age:
Character Canon:
Character Journal:
Character Race:
TARDIS Color:
Canon or AU:

What point in your character's canon do they come from? If an AU what makes them AU?

How did they manage to come to the fractured universe?

Do you have any special powers? If so what are they? And what do they do?

Non Travelers who came through by accident, do you have any notable items on you? We're not asking about loose change, but if you have an unlimited amount of money, sonic screwdrivers or pieces of exotic tech.

For the Torchwood Apartments, do you have a desired room # or anyone you plan to stay with? If you're staying with any of the Doctors or those with their own room and board, please state add their character journal.

Rules

Oct. 8th, 2010 07:56 pm
fractured_mod: (cyberman)
CHARACTERS - We welcome characters from all different fandoms and OCs into the game. We also take duplicates of the same character into the game. Due to the nature of the comm we prefer that people are of age when they join. The only difference is for those who wish to have their muses join with Torchwood where characters must be at least 18 to join with the organization.

ACTIVITY - Fractured Rifts has no activity requirements, however we ask that you remain as active as you can to keep the game moving along. You are welcome to play as many characters as you wish and can handle keeping active. However, we ask that you avoid overwhelming yourselves or taking on muses you cannot effectively play. Please be respectful and mindful of this request when you enable your verse mates.

RESPECT - If you can’t give it, you won’t get it. If you can’t give it, don’t bother joining the game. No one will want to play with you and you’ll have to quit or be removed for breaking the rules. This also goes for people who do not exactly break rules, but make the atmosphere uncomfortable for others. This includes harassment, constant sniping at other players, derailing others plots, and purposely stirring the pot. If we find out that you are doing these things, you will be given a warning and if it continues you will be asked to leave. This also goes for behavior outside of the comm/verse to other players not involved. If you are becoming a known troublemaker on the forms we play on (SWS, SSWS, Memebells) we may have no other choice but to remove you due to how it reflects on the community as a whole. The moderator staff will also willingly work with the moderator teams of these communities to help continue keeping a friendly atmosphere.

SIXWORDSTORIES/TWITTER/TUMBLR/AIM/EMAIL/WHATEVER - Players are free to play out verse events on these and other location if it's easier for them. However, if you want the activity played there to be verse canon, you MUST post a log or summary of activity so you verse mates know. If you do not, events you play off LJ will NOT be considered verse canon.

We are also not part of any other 'verse' out there on SWS. We are our own little verse. We would like it if people respect this rule. It makes things more confusing and complicated than they should be. This doesn't mean we can't play with people outside of the verse, but don't drag them along if they don't want to. If they want to play with us, ask the player if they would like to join.

DO NOT GODMOD! If your muses' actions though RP or Fic will in any way effect another’s muse, discuss that with them first! Do not use another’s muse in your fics without first allowing the mun final OK of your fic before publication. Communication is key here.

PLAY WITH OTHERS! It’s a game, that’s what it’s here for. We encourage you to get your muses out and meet new muses. That’s how great RP relationships start; all the characters have to do is meet. We’re not saying you have to have your muses be BFF with everyone, but get outside that immediate comfort zone and live a little. It’s FUN!

VIOLENT, ADULT & TRIGGER CONTENT - This should be tagged as such and placed under an LJ cut. Plots that feature heavy use of trigger content should be discussed with the verse on the OOC comm before you play them. This game will be dealing with issues that may not be suitable for some players, and please give people a chance to opt-out of something they aren't comfortable in playing.

PLAYER ISSUES - We’d all get along and there would be no drama and conflict in a perfect world. This however, is not a perfect world so these things can and will happen. In the event of conflict, please work with each other to resolve the situation. If that doesn’t work, contact a Moderator for assistance, but we do encourage everyone to work it out amongst themselves first, because if you ask the mods to step in, we will do what is best for the good of the verse. What we say will be the final decision on the matter.

MOD COMMUNICATION - The moderators reserve the right to share communications that concern the community with their fellow mods. The mod team is just that: a team; they need all of the available facts and information possible to vote on a solution to a conflict. When speaking with your moderators, bear in mind this when communicating with them. Of course, if you request a moderator not share your communications with their fellow mods, we will honor it, but this could greatly hinder the mod team’s ability to render a well informed decision.

Should you need clarification of any rule, ask. If you’d like a propose a rule, please contact one of the mods. Failure to adhere to these rule will result in at minumium you being asked to take a hiatus and at maximum removal form the comm.

The Setting

The Setting
Torchwood is set in the Doctor Who universe so events that do happen in the main canon will have some effect as to what happens here within the game. This means we welcome with open arms characters from Doctor Who and Sarah Jane Adventures into the Torchwood setting. The Rift is highly unpredictable, it not only brings dangerous creatures and objects from across time and space or other universes, it brings people to almost anywhere in this universe and it abandons them there either with just the clothes on their back, the change in their pocket or it brings with it entire time ships and spaceships with the crew intact. It very rarely allows people a chance to return home and any attempts to travel through the Rift result in disaster. Torchwood is heavily sci-fiction oriented and while the game is many-fandom friendly, it is best to pick characters that would best fit into a science fiction theme that revolves around alien life and fictionalized historic figures in the spirit of the show. There is no limit as to who or how many versions of a character may exist there maybe versions of dead friends, foes or numerous faces with alternating time lines; after all there's a universe made for every decision made. We have also allowed for other fandoms to intergrate themselves into the main verse setting, from Hellboy, the DC and Marvel Universes, and Dresden Files just to name a few that have been made part of the native setting of the universe.
